Technology, especially artificial intelligence, advances with each passing day, and helps simplify tasks that might otherwise be hard to do. AI can be a helpful tool for artists, but it can also do harm to them.
🔸Many have concerns regarding AI and what it can do. Fear that AI will one day take over and replace artists is justified, because AI can already produce images that look like a human has created it. Using AI becomes an issue when people use artists’ creation without their consent to create images, and then put their own name on them. Art theft is no laughing matter and should be taken very seriously.
🔸Another issue with AI is that it can devalue artists’ work. Large companies might not want to employ real, human, artists if they can just use AI and not pay a cent to a machine. For them it might be cheaper than paying a fair price to artists. However, although it is cheap (basically free) for companies to use AI, the quality of the work done by a real artist/illustrator is much better, and can’t be compared to an AI.
🔸But perhaps AI can also be helpful? It might help people who have disabilities (be they mental or physical) who wish to create, but are not able to. AI might also be a tool for beginner artists who need help and guidance with topics such as composition, perspective, colours etc.
It’s a difficult topic, and discussions around it are far and wide. But what do you think? Let us know in the comments below! Should AI be considered evil, or is it actually a good thing?
